The National Trust

The Petersham Trust has worked closely with the National Trust since its inception in November 1997.  The aim was, and remains, to hand Petersham Meadows over to the National Trust so that donors can be assured that cows will remain grazing in the Meadows and the cornerstone of the view from Richmond Hill will continue to be a haven of rural tranquillity.

Agreement was reached during October 2004 on the principle of transferring the care of the Meadows to the National Trust.  The Petersham Trust will pay an endowment to the National Trust to ensure that its aims will be fulfilled in perpetuity.  The exact sum has still to be finalised as is the exact timescale.

In the meantime, the Petersham Trust will continue to look after the Meadows and continue its fund raising efforts to ensure that its land management plans to both restore and maintain the rural aspect can be accomplished.

The precise hand over date will be notified as soon as it is known.
